Connection in Action:
Diana is now building her career in healthcare

In high school, Diana realized she wanted to pursue nursing and decided to explore her options through real-world experience.

Through the GHOYC, Diana enrolled in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) course with Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM), which helped her boost her interview skills, connect with employers, and quickly land a job as a patient care associate. Now that Diana has experience working in nearly every hospital unit, she plans to complete her nursing degree and specialize in eldercare. “I’m the first person in my family to work in the medical field,” she says. But that didn’t last long. With Diana’s encouragement, her sister earned her certificate at MAM as well.

Employer Engagement

“Employers who explore alternative talent pipelines often hire excellent workers they would not have found through traditional recruiting efforts.”

Bryant Black, Greater Houston Partnership

One of the strengths of our approach is engaging employers in win-win partnerships.

– GHOYC supports employers in their understanding of how to best work with OYYA.

– Collaboration between partners and employers after onboarding helps ensure success and minimizes turnover.

– Employers get the benefit of a talented, well-trained workforce.

– GHOYC has cultivated unique partnerships between community-based training organizations and healthcare employers, with plans to expand to other industries as well.
